Summer is here! Which I am soooo happy about but I do not enjoy being dessert for every flying insect (and flea) in my general vicinity. As I have aged, I have gotten much more picky about what ingredients I put on and in my body. And having a grandchild has made me even pickier (and more concerned) about the chemicals that enter through my skin. So, I did some research and came up with a cleaner, better smelling alternative. AND IT WORKS! So purchase a few empty spray bottles and get outside and enjoy the long days and longer nights without the hassle of itchy, nasty bugs! Both recipes are simple to make and easy to use!
Personal Bug Repellant Ingredients
- 2 cups distilled water
- 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops eucalyptus oil or rosemary oil
Instructions
- Mix well and pour into a clean spray bottle.
- Shake well before spraying.
Area Bug Repellant Ingredients
- 4 cups hot water
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Dawn dish soap
- 1/2 teaspoon Rubbing Alcohol
Instructions
- Combine hot water with ground cinnamon. Mix well and allow to steep (just like tea) until the water cools.
- Strain cinnamon mixture through a colander to eliminate the cinnamon sludge that gathers at the bottom. Do not worry if some sludge remains.
- When cooled, add Dawn dish soap and rubbing alcohol. Stir or shake well.
- Pour into a clean spray bottle and label well so no one drinks it because it smells amazing! Shake well before spraying.
Thanks for these Robin! Awesome! I also hate all those chemicals!;)
